Research Insights

Doing a competitive analysis and conducting 1:1 interviews with potential users confirmed that taking care of plants is not an easy job, and the currently existing mobile application solutions seem to be incomplete.

Participants mentioned missing features, frustrations, and even applications that are simply too complicated to use.

  • Knowledge: The users want to learn new information and share their knowledge. To target this, a plant catalog will be created as well as an ability to reach other users and build a community.
  • Intuition: The main function of the app is going to be the ability to set reminders of plant-related actions. This will be the intuitive or "no-brainer" part of the application.
  • Easy flow: The application is targeting a problem that needs to be minimal for the users: Taking care of plants should be fun. Making the application easy to use and enjoyable is a high priority.

Conclusion & Next Steps

The iOS InVision prototype was tested on four participants with different levels of knowledge on plant caring. The participants all mentioned that they loved how complete the applicaton was, and how they would be happy to use it in real life. They also enjoyed the UI as they felt the color palette and choice of fonts made the application feel fresh and alive, matching well with the theme of plant caring.

No major pain points were discovered during the test. The participants said that the different sections of the application and the interactions made sense to them and were what they expected them to be.

NEXT STEPS:

  • Create the Android prototype and do user testing
  • Iterations for issues as necessary
